A memorial and new public space dedicated to conscientious objector Archibald Baxter opened recently in Dunedin.

The memorial and public plaza commemorates New Zealand’s most well-known conscientious objector.  Known as the Archibald Baxter Peace Garden it also serves as the country’s national memorial for all conscientious objectors.

Signal Management Group has donated much of its time in managing the implementation of the project.   The memorial is located at the northern end of Dunedin’s main street, George Street.  An existing pedestrian stairway and garden was removed to make way for the new installation.  The site had particular engineering requirements due to its location with geotechnical challenges and the presence of existing underground Council drains having an influence on the detailed design and construction.
