Located in the established suburb of Opawa in Christchurch, St
Mark's is an integrated co-educational school offering a special
Christian character to Year 0 - 8 children. The school caters for a
maximum roll of 245 students. The school experienced significant
damage in the Canterbury earthquakes with a number of buildings
having to be demolished.
Signal Management Group led the preparation of a comprehensive
$7M development master plan for the St Mark's School board of
proprietors. Signal then subsequently managed the
implementation of the master plan over a series of stages, to allow
the school to be fully functional throughout the major site
redevelopment.
The existing library building was damaged beyond repair and was
demolished. In its place a new four teaching-space senior
school building was constructed, designed to modern Innovative
Learning Environment standards. The school's hall was
repaired and substantially strengthened with new foundations, new
floor slab and significant additional steel structure. A new
stage house, music suite and toilets were also added to the
building.
The school's iconic existing four-teaching space junior block
and the existing middle school building housing teaching spaces,
library and administration areas, were repaired, strengthened
and significantly modernised.
